Considering EU studies?
Check out our Advanced Master in Brussels

The Institute for European Studies (IES) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel is closely monitoring the ongoing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. As the situation continues to change rapidly, our top priority remains the health, safety, and well-being of our community. As a consequence of the virus, the IES moved its teaching fully online in mid March.

Our plan for the academic year 2020-2021 is is that EuroMaster classes will take place in a blended format, with a combination of on-campus and online teaching. Most classes will have an onsite element, which is offered to those who are now in Brussels. Others, who are currently unable to come to Belgium, will be provided with an equal alternative, including online seminars and live-streaming of lectures, where appropriate. Our courses have been (re)designed to ensure that we are capable of dealing with any changes to the health and safety protocols set out by the authorities. We recognise that COVID-19 presents a very serious threat, yet our innovative ways of blended learning will allow us to continue to teach without jeopardising the highest priority of health and safety. If you have any questions on this important issue, don’t hesitate to contact us. (Last updated 16 September 2020).

The EU is undergoing one of the most turbulent times in its history. Numerous crises are challenging the EU’s integration process. Brexit is giving a whole new perspective on the notion of ‘integration’. Would you like to learn more?

Here at the IES, we are able to offer you privileged insights on these unique developments, right at the heart of the policy action – in Brussels. Our Advanced Master in European Integration programme (‘EuroMaster’) first provides a solid interdisciplinary basis on the European integration process, and then allows the students to focus on any two of the following central EU policy fields: economy, migration, environment and external relations and security. Our courses are optimal for international students and professionals, as they are taught in English in the evenings, by a staff that mixes top academics with high-level EU practitioners.

Classes after working hours enable both full-time students
and professionals to attend the lectures.

The programme gave me a broader understanding of the pros and cons of the European Integration and the complexity of the decision making process.Y. Ilieva - Parliamentary Assistant
